About the event:
Internationally acclaimed singer Ute Gfrerer with Austrian roots and home base on the island of Nahant near Boston is inviting you into her home to enjoy some Holiday Music and share some memories and reflections about this special time of the year.
Ute Gfrerer’s extended solo career brought her to theaters all over the world, like the Vienna Volksoper and the Zurich Opera, The Barbican Hall in London, The Megaron Theater in Athens, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Deutsches Theater Munich, NHK Hall in Tokyo, The Virginia Opera, and the Salzburg Music Festival to name but a few.
She is a specialist in the music of Kurt Weill, having sung and recorded many of his pieces. In 2018 Ute was asked to be the first person to sing and record a Weill song (The Song of the Blind Girl) that was lost since 1930 and then rediscovered in a library in Berlin 88 years later! Last year she served as a judge for the prestigious “Lotte Lenya Voice Competition”.
Ute Gfrerer enjoys doing her own cabaret shows and collaborating with other artists, like visual artist Lisa Rosowsky which whom she created a very personal program around the topic of the Holocaust. www.forourfathers.com. Scott Nicholas, pianist, has a repertoire spanning classical and musical theater and has appeared throughout the U.S. and internationally in solo and chamber performances. He has served as pianist for the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, The Three Irish Tenors, Greek tenor Mario Frangoulis, Minnesota Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, the Concord Women's Chorus, the Cambridge Community Chorus and the Leontyne Price Vocal Arts Competition. He records frequently with E.C. Schirmer's Philovox Vocal Ensemble, has been heard on WGBH-FM and WBUR-FM in Boston, and his commercial recordings are available on Albany records. Scott has served as music director for several organizations including Central Square Theater, Franklin School for the Performing Arts, Franklin Performing Arts Company, Suffolk University, the New England Conservatory’s Opera Workshop and St. Michael’s Playhouse, VT. Mr. Nicholas is on the faculty of Emerson College and is a senior lecturer at Suffolk University where he teaches piano and coaches opera and music theater.
