About the Event
For many of us, Christmas is very different this year, especially for those facing medical hardships, our heroic NHS staff, and our professional classical music industry. We know it's a little harder to feel the magic of the season, so Lionsgate Music is bringing the spirit of Christmas to you! Sit back, relax, and enjoy this celebratory concert of traditional English Carols and classic music.
"A Christmas Cure" is a fundraising concert for Lionsgate Music's chamber music series specifically designed to uplift and support the well-being of NHS hospital staff, whilst aiding in the recovery and comfort of patients facing medical hardships in these historic times.
About the performers:
Dawn Hardwick is an experienced concerto soloist with a varied repertoire – from more traditional piano concertos to contemporary collaborations and experimental music. Most recently, she performed John Psathas’ double concerto ‘View From Olympus’ with percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and the British Sinfonietta to great acclaim, also appearing with Dame Evelyn at the Southbank Sky Arts Awards, broadcast on the Sky Arts channel, and on BBC One’s ‘The One Show. Well-established as an orchestral and chamber musician, she regularly works with the UK’s most respected orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, Ulster Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia and London Sinfonietta, both at home and abroad. Dawn has been involved in many radio and television broadcasts, such as James May’s ‘Man Lab’, the BBC Proms, and countless appearances on BBC Radio 3. She was the pianist for English Touring Opera’s Olivier Award-winning production of Tippett’s ‘King Priam’ and has recently been working with animator Gregoire Pont on ‘Cinesthetics’, a concert of the solo piano music of Ravel set to live animation, in association with Maestro Arts.
Australian-born and living in London, Patrick Savage was Principal First Violin in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London for several years and continues to regularly lead the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. For several years he was also first violin in the Tippett Quartet. Patrick is now a free-lance concertmaster, soloist, session player, and West End musician. As guest concertmaster, he has worked with many orchestras including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Australian World Orchestra, the Liverpool Philharmonic, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. As a soloist Patrick has appeared with many orchestras in the UK including the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Young Musicians’ Symphony Orchestra. For several years he was the leader of the Tippett String Quartet, an ensemble acclaimed by the Daily Telegraph in London as promising to make “a significant contribution to the realms of chamber music”. The Tippett Quartet especially championed contemporary composers, undertaking many world premieres and appearing regularly at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London.
